"I'm putting this aside in favor of another book. I'm struggling with the amateurish writing and the author's seeming compulsion to prove he knows 80s pop culture. Perhaps the writing level is intended to reflect the protagonist's age, but I don't have confidence in that, especially given the ham-fisted and ceaseless references to the 80s.
