First of all: THE WRITING.
The writing, meaning the gorgeous and breathtaking descriptions. Honestly, do I want a lover if they're not going to wax poetic about me the way that Patroclus waxes poetic about Achilles? I had to add an extra page for my favorite quotes into my reading planner because there were just SO MANY OF THEM. Probably more than any other book I've read.

Second of all: THE ROMEO AND JULIET PAIN BUT BETTER.
Why bother with Romeo and Juliet when you can get the same concept but Greek and also gay? That is my personal philosophy. This romance is much healthier, depicted over a MUCH longer and more natural build-up than Romeo and Juliet. I am now a broken woman, more so than with CMBYN, which is also definitely saying something about this book's savage beauty.

Third of all: PATROCHILLES LOVE.
The way that Patroclus and Achilles’ relationship is depicted is so perfect in that it is imperfect. There are times when they face struggles that all couples come across eventually, even if they are soulmates. For example, there is a scene where they get into their first big argument, and Patroclus comments that neither of them know how to be angry with each other. That they loved each other so much and yet here was this bump in the road, and neither of them could fathom how it had happened. And when they make up with each other, they realize that they had been foolish in believing that they could never be upset with one another, because that’s just plain unrealistic with any couple. I think that this is such a perfect scene because of the message it’s sending, that all couples fight, even the godly ones.

Fourth of all: GREECE AND HISTORICAL ACCURACIES AND JUST YES.
In case you don't already know, the Percy Jackson and Heroes of Olympus series were and ARE my absolute favorite book series of all time. And what do they center around? Greek mythology. We hear everyone talking about Achilles and the wars and Odysseus, but this is cutting straight to the source. I genuinely thought that Solangelo and Apollo and Hyacinthus were the best that us gays into Greek mythology were gonna get, but lo and behold, I was VERY WRONG! My standards have been forever placed at a higher level than they were before.

In conclusion: OW AND THANK YOU, MADELINE MILLER.
This is one of my new favorite books of all time, and I feel like I can just re-read it whenever I want to disappear back into the world of Ancient Greece. *chefs kiss* Thank you, Madeline. Truly. ...more "
