I enjoyed this fascinating, sharp, short (too short) novella and found myself thinking about the situation in the book long after I had finished it. It is a character driven tale and I had conflicting opinions about each of the characters throughout the story, agreeing then disagreeing with their actions appropriately. Exploring human behaviour in a particular situation, the author skilfully made me care about the outcomes and reactions by creating complexities in the characters whilst making each of them quite unlikeable (very Ian McEwan style) - this takes great skill. The male character, Weston, let me down the most but in the end I was let down by everybody; including the author. For me there was a perfect structure and balance until the abrupt ending - for this she is forgiven as it is again highlighting the skill to leave the reader wanting more, or in my case wanting to throw it across the room. Fabulously annoying and definitely 5 stars.
