The conversation is over, the person has left, the situation has moved on and yet, in your head, none of it is quite finished. You keep revising your answers, questioning your reactions, imagining different outcomes. Sometimes, the event itself takes less out of you than the hours you spend thinking about it afterwards.

That is the territory explored here.

The book looks at the mental habits that make ordinary frustrations difficult to leave behind: overthinking, emotional triggers, the need for control, and our tendency to attach ourselves to things that have already happened. Trenton examines these patterns and offers ways to recognise them and respond more deliberately.

We often mistake repeatedly thinking about a situation for doing something about it. We replay a conversation, search for a better response, or try to make sense of someone's behaviour, hoping another round of thinking will finally settle the matter. Instead, we carry the same frustration into the next hour, sometimes even the next day.

The book encourages us to recognise when reflection has stopped being useful and become a cycle we cannot seem to exit. You cannot prevent every unpleasant remark, unfair situation, or unreasonable person from crossing your path. But you can learn to question the hold these experiences have on you.

Being unbothered isn't about pretending that nothing hurts or becoming indifferent to everything around you. It is about creating some distance between what happens and how you choose to respond. That distinction matters, particularly when your first instinct is to react, defend yourself, or keep searching for an explanation that may never come.

Of course, understanding a pattern is easier than breaking it. The real test comes when something genuinely gets under your skin and you have to put these ideas into practice. You may not control what disturbs you, but you can learn to stop giving it more of your life than it deserves. ...more "
