The book from the series that I will be talking about today is Calamity. Brandon Sanderson grew up in New England and attended Brigham Young University. He is best known for his science fiction books. This series shows examples of a dystopian society taken over by evil superhumans called who are called epics. In the book Calamity, the protagonist is David Charleston who is just an average 19 year old boy. He is joined by a crew of other people called the Reckoners who include: Megan, Abraham, Cody, and Mizzy. Their job is to kill these epics in order to make a peaceful society. Their full names are not given in the chance one of them is taken hostage. They really do not share much information at all because of the grand fear of epics. In this book, their previous leader named Prof, was a good epic. He was able to control his power and use it to help people. In the second book in this series he used too much of his power and turned evil. His goal is to murder the rest of the reckoners. He knows all their hideouts, knows how they operate, and he will kill them upon sight. The reckoners on the other hand, have limited supplies from raiding a weapons dealership and have the difficult task of converting Prof to his regular self without getting killed themselves. The way to do this is to use his fear, or weakness, to counteract his powers to make him vulnerable then convert him back to his true self. The setting of this book is constantly moving, in a place called Idaithia. It represents Atlanta except made of salt and moving across the United States. Here is a short passage from the book from when the reckoners are trying to get weapons to help bring Prof back (read passage). All in all, I would highly encourage you to read this series as it is eventful and exciting at all times. The interactions between characters are amusing and you get a sense of a grander plot that is not clear throughout every book. Brandon Sanderson has written many books, but I believe these three to be some of his best work. ...more "
