I just finished this book…based solely on the Recommendation from a friend who said “read this book”!
It was so amazing! And I was so happy to find out it was based on true events and actual people. I promise you will cry, get mad and cheer all the way through. The main character showed up and learned to be seen and heard. Not an easy feat for young women in the 1940’s.
“Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions. Small people always do that, but the really great make you feel that you, too, can become great.”

“There is no point treating a depressed person as though she were just feeling sad, saying, 'There now, hang on, you'll get over it.' Sadness is more or less like a head cold- with patience, it passes. Depression is like cancer.”
