the midsummer night's dream chapter is definitely the best in this book if only for the phrases "renaissance furry fandom" and "aristotle, the first ponyboy"

the much ado chapter brings up good ideas but it seems so half-baked and way too short... someday i will have to write the Politically Aromantic Reading Of Much Ado paper myself

the taming of the shrew chapter is doing nothing for me but i'm just so happy that it's about latin being sexy instead of about reading kate and petruchio as bdsm that i don't even care

I’ve read out of order, but I have found it incredibly helpful and engaging when trying to relate it to Shakespeare. It is veryyyy academic honestly a thick to read through but I really really enjoy it.

"If dowries, flesh, and blood are the most important markers of early modern heterosexual marriage rites and rights, then Antonio takes on heterosexual marriage at its most sacrosanct sites and proceeds to outstrip each of them... [he] shows himself welcoming in the present as opposed to some hazily undefined future the ultimate proof of the endurance of the marital bond: 'til; death do us depart.'"

"In the face of every ideological apparatus... striving to inculcate a politics of reproductive futurity, Romeo and Juliet insist that there is no time; the time is now; it is sonnet/lyric time, not narrative time; there is no future. This is the... drive that drives them to their tombs."
this got my brain going but imo you could do more w the erotics of/obsession with death in this play <-- guy who's insane

"Nick Bottom, artisan and amateur actor, is a Renaissance proto-furry."
there is a footnote here. that explains the word furry. in an academic manner. this article is called "shakespeare’s ass play." it concludes by drawing lines between MSND & ponyplay, which “offers an escapist release from the burdens of being simply human,” & then asserts aristotle was the first ponyboy. i hope the whole book is like this

I have decided to annotate this book, while I read which has taken me longer than I would have liked, plus I am very busy. However, I feel like I am learning when I can understand or pick apart what I am reading.
