This brain trust really didn't put on shoes before leaving the house again. 🤦🏻♀️

After reading one zillion books set in London, my alma mater finally makes an appearance! Up until now I've been convinced that authors think Oxford and Cambridge are the only universities in the entire country.

I mean: Ira/Irene Adler even have the same name. Lazarus/Watson is a locum doctor who has a bullet scar in his shoulder from Afghanistan, and then we have Professor and crime lord combo: Goddard/Moriarty. I haven't even met St. Andrews yet, but he's the one that made the parallel in the first place. Is this a spoof? Is it an homage? Fanfic? I'm confused and I barely know any Sherlock Holmes...

I'm puzzled as to why the writer has one of the characters (St. Andrews) wanting himself to be known as the Sherlock Holmes of wherever it was, inviting secondhand ridicule from the reader through the MC's POV and at the same time have all the main characters be obvious Sherlock Holmes derivatives.

I’ve caught two moments where there was a confusion between first and third person, which leads me to believe this novel used to be—at least partly—told in third. I’d be interested in hearing the reasons why first was selected over third.

Ira has zero friends and doesn’t seem to realize it.
