I think an understated issue with this is the inconsistent formatting. You've got four sections of your books to keep track of yet can't be bothered to have actual chapters/sections for all of them, nor make them approximately the same length at all. I realized biographies were not really huge back then and standards were low but damn

The essay on Cardinal Manning is as much about Cardinal Newman. Interesting in that all I knew about them was that they were Anglo-Catholic converts to Roman Catholicism. The focus on Manning's ambition and theological issues selected for their obscurity to secular readers conceals the reasons for his popularity. (Look for vague references in subordinate clauses.) Fun read, tells more about Strachey than Manning.
