Into Book III now. It's going to be sad
soon, I fear. Julia has about run out of her frolic time and her father's patience. He's tired and having to choose his last choice for successor it looks like. Yep, sadness coming. Next generation getting anxious to try their hand at running the world. Sounds like history repeating itself again.

I'm reading Augustus from this collection.
Augustus is so much more than I'd expected it to be. The title may be Augustus, but Augustus is not the only person on stage for this work. The communication between the other players reveals more of the depth of the events portrayed. The end of chapter 3 was very sad. The human cost of governing.
Yes, it's fiction, but it can tell what historians don't.

Although this isn't a happy tale, it's still well written and a good read. He's just had a serious run in with the establishment at the university that ended badly for Stoner. Suspect more similar situations in his future. He's an interesting character, one of several in this book.

Started with Stoner which is the middle work in this book. Hope the rest of this reads as well as the first few chapters. He's a writer.
