Status Updates From Middlemarch

Finished Book 2. The Rome chapters are excellent. I'm eager to keep reading but need to give myself the weekend off not to overstep my book club.

It’s been longer than I can remember since I read a massive 19th century British novel, and what I’ve learned from picking this up at the beginning of the year is how much our modern sensibilities towards literature has made novels like this require stamina. Maybe that’s just me. But, if this were written today, this book would have been cut by at least 400 pages. I’m not quitting, just resting.

the only love story i care about is fred and mary’s. everyone else is just so boring
