I actually find the anecdotes and history of Arkham House to be pretty interesting even though it's not got much to do with deciding what are Mythos stories or not.

I'm unsure of when The Eltdown Shards became attributed to Richard F Searight, but in this Carter attributes them to either Lovecraft in The Shadow Out of Time or Lumley from the revised The Diary of Alonzo Typer.

Carter kind of glances over why "Through the Gates of the Silver Key" wouldn't be considered a part of the Mythos, since it follows his own definition of not just referencing but contributing new place names/history to the Mythos even if they aren't used again in future stories.

I think I prefer the phrase "The Carcosa Mythos" Lin Carter says people were using back then for the King in Yellow stories of Bierce/Chambers, rather than what we use now: "The Yellow Mythos". I dunno, just sounds kind of clunky to me.

I think him and I just fundamentally disagree on his classification system, because for some reason if it belongs to one set of stories like the Dream Cycle it can't belong to the Cthulhu Mythos because that's a separate classification. Why not both??
