A sonic challenge for the reader:

Things that have recently aroused amorous or sexual feelings in Fafhrd: a 12- year old girl he just saved from being raped, and a female ghoul (trying to kill and eat him) with transparent skin but “rosily translucent” around the genitals.

Absolutely baffling decisions going on right now. Why did Leiber introduce a character from the real world for 5 pages as some sort of Deus ex Machina only for him to vanish? Why did, every time that character spoke, he describe how the other characters couldn't understand him, write out what he said in German, and then translate to English for the reader? How did this guy have a German-Lankmarian pocket dictionary?
