Slightly mixed feelings, but this was still an enjoyable read. RTC!

This has been vivid and absorbing the whole way through. I'm definitely finding some of what I absolutely loved as a young adult to be weaknesses from my more adult perspective, though. But I'm really glad I decided to reread this.

This isn't exciting me quite the same way it did when I was the target age for it. But I can definitely see why younger me absolutely loved it. And it continues to be so absorbing that I don't notice the train stations going by!

"Why does he live as a poor craftsman in a city he could be king of? Because he loves his craft. Because he loves Athens. And because he wants to be near Aegina, but can't bear to live there."
I'm not sure I'm loving this with the burning passion of my teen self, but it's still vivid and gripping, and I was so absorbed in it that I didn't even notice a problem on the train while I was reading!

I read this when I was 20 and absolutely loved it. I'm slightly nervous about this reread. So far, so living up to my memories.

Really? That's what this all lead up to? So was that the main plotline? Well okay then, I'm glad it's over.

I have so many issues with this.. I mean, the story's not terrible I suppose.. Although now that I think about it, I have no clue what the story's about. Nothing that happens feels like it matters. I really don't get it.

Main character is really starting to annoy me.. I think we've got a bit of a Mary-Sue on our hands.. Why does this always happen? Can't female leads just be realistic, complex human beings?
