Loved Scandal but sensing that this may be a DNF for me

The focus on beauty is so tedious. Every page is a reflection of wether the heroine is beautiful or not, and further reinforcing the hero’s beauty. Oh my god,but there is no plot.

Historical Romance Book Club BOTM for December 2022, 'Forced into marriage' trope. I've read this book before and liked it. Jewel is a quality writer. I'm enjoying this reread.

Nearly halfway through the book and I cannot remember one substantial conversation between the leads.

“Don’t think,” Ben said, “that I didn’t notice her.” With elaborate care, he lit the end and watched Ruan through a cloud of smoke. “Those exquisitely long legs. Good God, I love to watch her walk.”
“I wanted to take her to bed the moment I laid eyes on her. But by the time I met Anne, I was hopelessly in love with Mary. I didn’t admit that, of course, but I loved her madly.”

Disgusting.

Anne’s dislike has magically disappeared. She doesn’t feel anything even after technically being raped..

I started this last week and got bored, but I'm going to finish it now I suppose!

Carolyn Jewel's Scandal was one of the best books I read this year. I keep wanting Anne from Lord Ruin to be more like Sophie from Scandal. I just need like... the tiniest bit of backbone?

But what annoys me is how these ‘spinsters’ all of a sudden become so desirable once they are married. Like I understand, they become beautiful and the man she’s married to plays apart into that allure...but where was the intrest during the 50 balls she’s been attending huh...shallowwwwwww

God I love it when the heroine has several admires and the hero is jealous or always on his toes 😭

Does this get intresting? I mean....they are married and she is pregnant and it’s only 35% of the way through...the audiobook is boring me and I’m feeling something adventurous

This book is all over the place. I'm forcing myself to finish it for some reason, but I really don't understand either main character, especially Anne.

Sigh. I'ma finish this book BUT this whole scenario brings up issues of consent and, while I think the author BARELY skates by, it's still a bit skeevy.
