"Thee, next they sang, of all creation first, / Begotten son, divine similitude, / In whose conspicuous count'nance, without cloud / Made visable, th'almighty Father shines, / Whom else no creature can behold: on thee / Impress'd, th'effulgence of his glory abides, / Transfus'd on thee his ample Spirit Rests."
Book III, 383-389

Much like Dante, Milton's humanity shines through what was meant to be an epic retelling of the redemption of man. Especially harrowing is the beginning of Book III, in which (seemingly) Milton, a then blind man, personally calls upon God's holy light. I'd read small excerpts of Paradise Lost, but have found new significance upon approaching it in its entirety.
