"I am trying to be unbiased in this book and to keep my personal feelings to a minimum but I must say that I see criticism of the Belgrano sinking order as humbug.
The Argentinians had used armed force to invade the Falklands (ignoring the UN) & had been clearly warned that their warships were likely to be attacked inside or outside the Total Exlusion zone; the Navy was not out on a summer cruise."

The British plan was to allow approx 2 weeks of naval & air action over and around the Falklands in order to draw the Argentinian air force & navy into action and defeat them before the landing force arrived.

[Bombing Stanley airstrip from Ascension island, 3750 miles away] " Black Bucks" were really Victor operations onto which a Vulcan bomber was grafted. Both of these fine aircraft were more than 20 years old, the product of the great leap forward in the jet-engine design of the late 50s. It terms of years of service, it was as tough the Battle of Britain was fought with Sopwith Camels!
