This book was 5 stars with several underlined passages (which is a testament because i find it soul crushingly difficult to take out a pen in public to underline things in a book) until i lost this book in pálás. Another stab put through my heart at the hand of this cinema. On a related note, early RIP to a gorgeous gorgeous cinema. I fear i’ll never download letterbox’d once she’s gone.

jesus christ i’m in love with this book. If i seen it at a teenage disco i’d have been feeking the face off it.

fav quote so far:
‘it wasn’t that mother was actively unkind, for she thought far too much about the impression she wanted to make to give one of unkindness.’

[He] had never ... watched his fatherland drop away behind him. He didn't know the sort of hurt it can leave in a boy's mind, a hurt that doesn't heal even when you try to conjure away the pain by returning.

People mostly came back, but their protest remained to distinguish them from all the others who had never run away.
