I wanna read a book like this that either omits boats entirely or else actually confines them to the bin where they belong instead of being like "these were the most important and amazing thing ever, lemme wax lyrical about it for awhile."
Historians who are not secretly just naval enthusiasts need to get on with writing books like this.

The things he decides to explain what they are and the things he just expects me to already know what they are are so arbitrary.
Bear in mind this was 1989, so he was not expecting me to just google what these various siege objects are.
