Status Updates From Planesrunner (Everness #1)

It begins with Everett witnessing a kidnapping and dashing into another world to save his father. Now he's teamed up with a quirky airship crew doing steam punk swashbuckling. Its fun and all, but what about his dad? He's further away from his goal that he was in the first chapter. How is he ever going to save his dad at this rate?

I dunno if its the heat wave or the book, but I can't stick with it long without getting sleepy. The book isn't bad or anything.

I dunno how feel about this story. It seems a bit basic ck pared to his other work.

When did it become.e agreed upon between all sci-fi authors that in the far future everyone will dress silly. I understand fashion that can come across alien and unusual from outside the time period. But in every sci-fi book people in the future dress like clowns. Why? Bc its the future, does everyone just decide to just wear brightly colored garbage? I don't understand this trend.

Might be jumping the shark a little bit here. Sure Ev is a genius and he could visualize a map with its unique rules about how parallel universes connect. I buy that. The fact that he could program it into a computer to control this world gate within a couple hours. No way! That has to be turned into software and it might not be equipped at all. I don't care how smart u are. Programming takes time.

I can typically zip thru at 25 pages a night will a lot of authors. But Ian McDonald's writing is so dense with the technology and world building my reading speed seems to slow way down just to take it all in. I dunno if its a good thing or bad thing, but I do really love this book so far.
