You don’t have to lie, Phoebe. Brendan told us (…)
What, because he confessed to two murders everything he says is now treated as the whole truth?

Frank had most likely discovered Dana’s true identity.
Frank was hired by Nate. Dana’s true identity was his starting point.

”We’re a little down,” Dad said. “What with Carole’s murder, Josh having disappeared, and now Shelley missing, none of us feel right having fun.
Not to mention I haven’t seen nor heard from my only son in days.

How long has it been since Josh has had anything to eat or drink? It sounds like he has a hard time processing new information.
Would probably also help if Holly give direct information rather than clues for him to puzzle together.

”You also have an alibi,” said Ben. “Oma can testify that you slept in her apartment.”
Not much of an alibi if Oma was asleep herself.

Do I need a lawyer? said the tech-millionair.
I’m surprised he didn’t say a page ago: I don’t like the route this line of questioning is taking. I decline to answer any further questions until I gave a lawyer present.

dr. Engelknecht eyed me and tilted his head. “He stayed with you?”
Yes, you judgmental old farth, he stayed with me. We were very careful to keep the weight off his injured leg.

So everyone in town calls the mayor/local inn-keeper Oma (granny), even the people that are old enough to have grandchildren of their own.

Yes, where is sergeant Hayward? He was last seen (on page 121) near reception, sleeping in a love-seat.

Ben is the worst lawyer Josh could have to represent him. One moment he gives off the suggestion Josh is a client, the next he questions Josh’s innocence in front of a police officer.
He’s not supposed to say anything that may harm the defence of his client.

But why did they run from the police?
I don’t think they even knew the police was outside waiting for them. They just doubled back and went the other way.

Ben’s a lawyer, but is he contract law? Can’t be criminal law; he gives terrible legal advice. Or at least, he doesn’t seem to grasp the concept that the burden of proof lies with the police, not with whoever the police like to have a chat with.
