Strange conclusion the author would come to in saying people of the time "may have found it difficult to imagine women as serious political threats." Isn't the fact that she was a serious political threat the reason that Mary Queen of Scots was executed in the first place?

I am still not sure what to make of Raleigh. I am glad that Bess did not appear to be too lonely, while he was off on his adventures. I'm glad she had her family and her household to take care of, while he continued to publicly ignore her despite the fact that they'd been married for a few years. He's kind of a dbag.
