I've only made it through the Essential and Intermediate sections thus far, but I'm afraid that's as far as I'll get before this year's immersion overseas.

I've just finished book 1 of 3, Essential Japanese. This is easily the best workbook-based language program I've yet to encounter. It does a very good job of teaching the reading/writing component without making this a prereq to the speaking component.
Onward into book 2 of 3, Intermediate Japanese!
