Really savoring each chapter’s wisdom

"Attitude","Coherence" and "Slowing Down" all have crucial insights as we age: whatever you give your attention to, indicates the quality of life you have; one must realize that despite the nostalgia we'd like to hold on to, life does still go on, and the more we are in the present, the more we notice and therefore , come to appreciate the beautiful and small things more fully.

Just finished "Courage", which is a test in itself, as one must be honest with oneself to confront one's foibles; "Body lessons" teaches one to flow with the deterioration of the body and find work-arounds. Aging gracefully is easier said than done, but be(com)ing a prisoner to ones perception of aging does not enhance one's quality of life- one"s resilience in the face of deterioration does!

This book shows me where I am now in transitioning as I grow older and hopefully, wiser in some chapters, and what's ahead in others. It really comes down to a change of perspectives, priorities and recollective insights! I am embarking on page 155 (Part 3- Courage), which I suspect and feel IS the core of the book, but I really appreciate the insights!

About to embark on the "Giving and Receiving" chapter. However, the previous chapters enlighten me further on the sad fact that tragedy must strike in order for us to confront and appreciate our mortality/vulnerability, plus see what is really important.

I love the premise of this book; there's a lot that changes as we grow older and a lot that is not bad. There is a lot that we feel we MUST keep up to be different, special and/or successful, which becomes internally and socially irrelevant as we get older... If we care to listen . Sadly, it takes loss, frailty or tragedy for us to see this, but the shift in orientation is nevertheless there!
