Status Updates From Der Trinker

People say that this is his most autobiographical novel and I really hope that’s not true. This main character is awful. I do know that some of it is because of the alcoholism which he can’t really help (like the paranoia about his wife taking everything) but a lot of it is just an awful man (misogyny, classism, etc)

He got arrested. Hopefully now it will get better

I’ve had an eating disorder which in some ways is addictive. I was terrible to the people I love and would do anything to continue to starve myself. But I never actually hated anyone the way Erwin hates his wife simply because she wants him to be healthy. To me it just reads as misogynistic man, especially as he keeps lording over her the fact that legally she is below him

This is a really hard read. I want to get to the part about the insane asylum because I feel like that will be better.

But reading about a man who just despises his wife and is alcoholic isn’t really for me.

I know it’s called the drinker but I guess I didn’t really think of how the mind of an alcoholic works
