Thus far this is one of those excellent examples of the superiority of the crisp, understandable, academic writing of the early 20th century where the focus was on engaging both a popular and academic audience. The text flows well, is thoroughly footnoted, and generally free of the jargon-filled works from academic presses today.

This is what I needed. Fifteenth century civilization and the Renaissance by Hans Baron, chapter 3. Very easy to read and enjoy. Great historians write well. Not always but this volume is superb. You can’t hurry through such a well written book. History cannot be rushed.
