I wondered how this might hold up, as my last reading was some time ago. I find I have so much more empathy with Covenant and his brokenness. Is he a bitter, gruff cunt? Absolutely. Did his experiences with disease and societal osterization make him that way? You bet.
I enjoy reading of him feeling the beauty of The Land and letting that heal him a little. He's all gruff on the outside but a li'l softy inside.

Time for a nostalgia read. I must have gone through this series a half a dozen times and it's time to visit The Land again..
