Status Updates From Daniel Half Human

I made a huge mistake here😭. I was not reading this book at all. I confused this with The boy who dared (the book I actually read).

Looking at these pictures, he was such a baby. He should never have been tried period. And most certainly not as an adult.

But Helmuth, was smart, he stood for what he believed in and didn’t regret his choices at the end, even if some were not the best. He died doing the right thing, and at a young age, kept God at the centre of it all. Because of his choices, his friends and brothers got to live and move to America.

16 years old. Tried as an adult, tortured and starved. Executed. 16 years old. There’s no humanity in any of it. Hitler and every Nazi was devoid of if. Because you couldn’t hurt and kill people in that way and not be evil, rotten to the core. I hate it.

Karl recounted that Helmuth gave him a wink and a grin and that’s how he knew he kept his promise of taking the blame for them is so sweet and so sad. And because of that he knew what to do in his interrogation and got a shorter sentence than Rudi.

And after his execution they sent his mom a bill, for the his prison time, execution costs -whatever that means!!! And tv e cost to ship her the invoice, how outrageous. How cruel.

This being based on a true story is wild. And just a short while after he was executed his mom and grandparents were killed in a bombing. How sad.

Aw, he did save them. He went about the trial in such a way that got only himself sentenced to death while his friends got imprisonment. Still sucks, death for simply telling the truth in a desire for freedom. Broken world.

I know it’s not his fault. What they’ve done to him is so inhumane and disgusting. But he gave up his friends, got their names beaten out of him. I was really hoping he could hold out and save their lives.

Disgusting! Human beings. They are human beings and should have never been treated this way.

But Helmuth pushing his friends to break the law because his own convictions related to Hitler is a sticky one. Sure, change has got to come and it’s not going to happen by being nice and comfortable but also people who are ready can allow their fear to overturn a revolution.

And what a wrong the German government is committing against the families of those young men who are dying on the frontlines of an unnecessary war by lying about victories that have not happened!!

But his rebellion, no matter how dangerous it is, is what will bring about real change.

I understand his upsetting it is for him to have his freedoms taking away by the man he once believed would bring restoration to Germany. But listening ti the radio knowing it could endanger your family and guilting your brother for having to serve in the war (not a choice! And you even admitted he’s not a nazi, you just want to place blame somewhere) is not okay. This is the time to do what you must to stay alive.

The censorship is outrageous! Jamming radio signals so only nazi approved radio comes through, isolating Germans by declaration it’s propaganda, when it’s very will truth! Sick.

Him and his brothers have a good understanding of God, though, which is good. His brother recognizes this as idolatry.

It’s doing too much. Pushing it too much into people’s faces. Which we know is to distract to the real horrors that are going to the place and brainwash people into a « Hitler knows best » type of thinking.

How hard they’re pushing this Hitler is the saviour narrative makes it so telling that corruption is afoot! No one actually making Germany better would need to tell you so much so that students have to greet their teachers with heil Hitlet salute, or that teachers don’t allow any thoughts contrary to the narrative and literally reprimand and belittle students with any critical thought.

But he’s seeing her as happy and in love, singing and washing dishes in love. Not the demeanour of a woman pretending.

Surely his mom knows she’s half Jewish, maybe she’s dating this man for her and her boys’ protection. If she’s seen with a nazi, than it shades her from appearing as anything but loyal to Hitler.

And of course! The boy transfers schools instead of a bad teacher being reprimanded. He grabbed a student by the collar, called him a traitor and untrustworthy to all his peers!! So gross.

A young boy at that! If our fifth grade main character feels wrong about that, you a grown man should also know better.

À teacher targeting a Jewish student in class is outrageous, wow.

And it’s becomes strange tension down the line when you find out everything your nation has done. How do you reconcile the pride you have that has been fed in you since childhood and the atrocities caused your nation and its leaders. And even harder to go against the grain of those who don’t care about the terrible things because of pride and ‘we’ve had it so good in this country, why dare complain’ mindset

It is so interesting how national pride is bred up in us as children. This thing that is no inherently bad, but in hindsight is skewed. We have a young boy so full of pride ready to fight as a Nazi without understanding of who they are and what they do and the atrocities that are about to be caused by their hands. At this age, he’s being indoctrinated by Hilter’s admin for the sake of his interests, not Germany!
