Edge of your seat reading and some really good scenes - Nita and the Lone Power, Nita and Nita's mom and the Lone Power, etc. - but parts of it felt a little chewy, if that makes sense. I'm glad she got to use her subroutines. Poor Pralaya! And his 36 kids! Surely that is going to come back later. I guess I still need to finish this book, though.

I confess that I don't really "get" what Nita's doing in these practice universes. Figuring out how to change universal laws, sure...but she's going to have a hard time practicing on cancer without practicing on actual cancer.

This one’s personal. I knew Nita‘s mom was going to be diagnosed with cancer; I didn’t know what kind (although given her headaches and vision trouble, I should’ve guessed.) My mom had a brain aneurysm when I was 14; she survived. My daughter got a concussion two Fridays ago. She seems perfectly herself, knock on wood, but we’re still waiting on that third MRI. I’m a little sensitive about head shit.

We still don't know the true nature of it, but "magic-crayon country" makes me think of Rose's Room from "Steven Universe." On a side note, what is the "old children's book" being referenced when Kit imagines "an elephant with three hairs in its tail"?

I enjoyed the previous book, but I think this one’s actually going down a little smoother. Granted, it’s early.

I have a feeling that Nita’s convo about dinosaurs refers to events from “the book of night with moon,” but I read that 20+ years ago now, *once*, so I’m really not up on particulars. 'Course, I read “high wizardry“ even longer ago and that left me with much clearer memories, but then, I wasn’t as keen on the feline wizard books. (and yet I’m already considering buying new copies for a reread…)
