This book was going okay (not great, but okay-like a knock-off Anne Rochelaire ie: Anne Rice's erotic pen name) yeah, okay as any erotic fantasy, until the rape scene. Holy shit, was the traumatic rape scene really necessary? I'd rather not have sexual violence mixed up with consensual bdsm shit. It's too problematic for me to even get into...

This is a well-written novel. I almost forget sometimes it's in first-person. I like the adult level to it instead of the YA/NA level of writing. You don't have that whininess of youthful angst. Sarah J Maas could stand to take a few pointers. A well-crafted story with dynamic characters and perfect tone.

So this was supposed an adult-themed fantasy novel. I would classify it rather as erotic historical fantasy fiction. Decent story but not quite what I was looking for. I know we are not supposed to judge a book by its cover but this cover should have warned me what was inside.

Attempting to break the near continuous Space Opera SciFi reading. Another book I picked up on recommendation by another reader. Supposed to be fantasy with some strong sexual context. Reads more like erotica with some mild fantasy dressing than the swords, sandals and magic fantasy I was looking for.

I am really not feeling this right now. Who doesn't like bdsm dark fantasy...but so far it's not touching any of those markers. Not really. I shall plow on though.
