At least I got to read through the chapter on the Purge (Night of the Long Knives). It's easy to see how heavily Chiaverini relied on this book for "Resistance Women."

It's certainly interesting to read about the reception and treatment of the press in early Nazi Germany and compare it to current events...

I was not expecting so much on the German royal family. Really, I didn't know there was still a royal German family, that was hoping to be restored, in the 1930s. (Or that in the 21st century, they are still around and still trying to get property back.)

I’m half way through and struggling to contain my intense dislike of Martha Dodd. She seems to thoroughly enjoy the company of Nazis so long as they entertain her. She’s shallow, pretentious, and very nearly criminal in her behavior. She does, however, offer an inside view of Nazi Germany from an American’s perspective and the book has value from this fact.
