I would say that was probably the most interesting chapter so far to me. I liked the commentary about how immigrants would often need to become landlords because they had an exceptionally large family or thst it was the only path out of poverty for them.

Now learning about feminist authors who spoke about their experience with exclusionary geographies and borders little more interesting and easy to digest

This book is so fucking academic. I honestly don’t understand most of it, the last bit is about web debois at least and some of the research he did with black folks that was basically census type data collection.

More super esoteric ramblings that if I’m brutally honest didnt understand.

I think now they’re talking about romanies and how they passed special laws to make it difficult for them to move around?

Didn’t really absorb much of it, but there was some stuff about families and their having firm borders in the house is not good for childrens development

Couldn’t really focus too much on that chapter; but my main take away is that physical space can be used to create systems that encourage compliance to the point where people don’t even accept them as a construct, but rather see it as naturally occurring.

It was an interesting chapter outlining how we actually don’t need physical separations if we start to see some cultures as inappropriate and basically subhuman. Part of creating fascism is having in groups and our groups and while they don’t specifically talk about fascism; it is interesting to think about how these tactics of othering are used to push that type of development.

The book seems to really focus on the idea of poop and how poor and the refugees are seen as the waste left behind by the middle class and liberals. Interesting view, don’t know how I feel on it yet.

The book is interesting. It’s talking a lot about how certain things are seen as gross, and trying to figure out why we see rats and cockroaches as being defilers and bringers of pollution.

It has a lot to do with dirt and shit. Like literal human waste shit. Brown seems to be the colour of the bad stuff.

Difficult to read and follow tbh, but I like some of the discussion around how whiteness is the opposite of dirt; and how it’s mostly a modern construction (in so far as it’s a state of purity that is achieved)

This book feels like it’s gonna be a real banger. Definitely up my alley from the intro. Looking forward to reading more
