includes an “autobiography” in which fitzgerald lists his fav alcohols drunk each year from 1914-1929. Essays all entertaining but somehow slippery-surfaced — flippant and fun in a way that makes clear he doesn’t look at himself very critically. Which I guess makes sense given that his entire first novel is about a “romantic egotist” (himself) who totally gets away with Big Ego intact

And so I ooze gently into middle age; for the true middle age is not the acquirement of years, but the acquirement of a family. The incomes of the childless have wonderful elasticity. Two people require a room and a bath; couple with child requires the millionaires suite on the sunny side of the hotel.
