god all of a sudden two months have gone by. time is not moved well in this book.

sorry i didnt comment at the time but the fact her main thing is flexibility makes it even dumber that when she was doing a badjob kicking or whatever she was like "i wasnt flexible enough bc of my stiff thigh" also the big age gap makes making her an acrobat/gymnast even yuckier

"there had been food tasters on staff for 15 years" Ok so when the revolution happened she was 4. so AT THE YOUNGEST if he was a SUPER DUPER SPY TEEN he would have been like 16 during the revolution, BUT far more likely was mid 20s. so there is a like. 12-20 year age gap between them at the SMALLEST GUESSTIMATE. okay cool great. he reads like a haggard old man not like a destined lover.

sorry the biggest issue w valek is he just reads exactly like discworld vimes, and vimes is like. the most unshippable man in the world to me.

"the power twins" ohh i know she wanted to make a fucking wonder twins joke so bad. also once more we are nearly HALFWAY done with this book, and we are still doing first quarter type plot points. i was going to give the book credit for keeping it slowburn but like. we just went from zero to "wow he fights beautifully i miss him" etc type things

ari and janco are truly interchangeable characters, they keep almost having their own set of traits and then they basically swap. i feel like theirs only two of them so they wont be a duelling love interest to valek. same reason why rand hasnt been as present as he could have been, and had a forced in 'btw he likes the seamstress' deal

oh i forgot the whole reason i came to comment earlier: she struggles to do five laps but effortlessly is able to grapple from treetop to treetop for an entire day??????? these things are in the wrong order, start working your strength back up and develop a mild rapport w two of the nicer soldiers and Then use it against them by hiding in trees

somehow only halfway in despite it feeling like we should be entering the final act and also that nothing has happened. i am not going to continue w this series lol. IF i had been able to find the alt pov one i would have read that but aw well too bad

this book being a magic food thing and now hinging on i guess her figuring out cocoa beans Should be so tailor made for me. but cursed w knowledge of it being a sprawling ass never ending series based on heartmates and souls and shit. just be a standalone magic food book damnit!

theres also (same complaint i always have) too many goddamn characters in these books that dont worldbuild or add more to our understanding of the characters but just take up space

every time it talks about closing borders and ceasing trade and shit im like wow so its a dystopia? and the book goes hmm or is it? like no man that sucks lol

the grappling hook isnt e just egregious from an escaping prisoner perspective, you also just. dont need that to climb a tree? unless shes gonna to travel thru the treetops?

still managing to havean okay time w this but the soulfinder thing mentioned,,,the words 'heartmate' or whatever in the later book descriptions,,,the only sequel book i would beinterested in reading being the one i cant find,,,,,,god is testing me

seamstress literally threatened to shorten margg's skirts infront of yelena so idk why she's being all shocked that she had actually altered marggs clothes before. also predicting yelena is selected as the fugitive for the exercise i had the thought when it was first mentioned but w a Second mention of it i feel even more certain lol

i do like that we have a firm age on her as 19, but valek does seem just a Smidge too old for her you know so i would Love an age on him bc as of right now we know she was "too young to remember what life was like before the takeover" (p. 82) while valek was a key assassin for the commander. so assuming at the oldest she was like. 10. or some shit. he would still have to be a like 16 yo prodigy killer for it to work
