I am still enjoying this enormously. I love the rich descriptions and many of the characters are becoming very important to me.

I am abandoning the book at this point. Maybe I shall pick it back up again in the near future.

The Dark Shore was given to me as a present. It's probably for that reason alone that I'm continuing. What difference should ten pages make? A lot. I'm annoyed by the repetition (just how many times *do* you need to die before a Dark Lord before the reader gets that he's in control of life and death, pray tell? The book thinks: definitely more than three times. ) Ugh. I'm giving this book to page 100 to wow me.

Attanasio has an interesting prose style. It's thicker than most, dripping with adjectives and the charm that the lend to his world. It is slow going, given that I haven't completely gelled with the aims of his novel. But the plot's there. The stakes are there. Some of the characters have showed up. It's an interesting experience. One that I'm definitely willing to continue.
