Finished. Book 3 was good too. Highlights were the Gemini twins. One of which seemed to be Lee’s Conan. And the wild wizards’ duel. The embodiment of hate and the resurrection of Azuzrel was awesome. Excited for the next one.

What a great ending for book 2! Mirrash and Zoraya. One thing I appreciate about this is that the narrative is really unique. I don’t know I’ve encountered the trope here delivered in this way. It reminds me of Greek myths with a dark twist. Themes of hubris and vengeance. Really fun.

The second book is better than the first! Zoraya is great. And the little details that Lee puts into the writing are lovely. I just read the scene with Z overhearing the bird conversations and it made me laugh so much. What a great imagination.

The relationship btw Shivesh and Azhrarn is really interesting. Very complex and gender-bending. Azhrarn is a full character with mixed motivations. Already like this writing more than a lot of the pulp I’ve read recently.

It starts dreamy and the prose reminds me of Gaiman. The opener feels a bit like one of my favorites - the graveyard book. A boy, taken at death of a mother, raised among demons. I’m piqued.
