A fantastic book that encapsulates the whole history of the Levant that is easy and informative grasping all side and blaming none well maybe a bias to the French colonial effort but it does well in underlying each player and the action on consequences of empire old and new I highly recommend this book to anyone historian those interest in middle Asia and those in the Eurocentric empires of old

Informative. Bias is always a key concern with these types of books. So far, even though the author is British, no punches seem to be held back against the Brits. However, The French seem to be slightly more vilified than the British.
