How has Edna Ferber escaped me all these years?

It’s interesting…. Written in 1945 about a time period from the late 1800’s to her times. I absolutely loved the first chapter - her writing was delightful. That sucked me in.It doesn’t glorify the history - she questions this settling, taking over of the land, and has one character question the way his family and other first families are deemed so important. There are some interesting bits of history here.
