Status Updates From Cuentos de Ise

It will be slow work through Harris’s translation notes. His notes focus on matters of cultural interest and problems of translation. I think the Ise Monogatari is more widely read in Japanese schooling than Tale of Genji since it is shorter and more digestible in school.

I would appreciate if anyone has knowledge of that and would comment.
(My head hurts a bit from the reading but it is interesting…)

now working through the episode (Dan) notes… his introduction and the notes are the best part of this translation. For my preferred literary translation see McMillan’s version.

I find this translation a bit clumsy in translation. However, the introduction and Dan (chapter) notes are useful to gain a better understanding of the sections. I like the McMillan translation better to read Ise Monogatari as literature.
