Status Updates From Conan: City of the Dead

Conan and the city of the dead, what an absolutely intriguing and fun story, brimming with great character work and a frightful villain, not to mention the character is so well written. The catacombs scene was reminiscent of the feeling I had experiencing until dawn for the first time, so many cool moments.

Conan and The emerald lotus (7) since I get the luxury of using out of 10 (fuck you good reads) was a surprisingly good tale. Classic sword and sorcery at its finest. The characters were all unique and likable, the villain filling you easily with disdain, and in classic Conan fashion, had a hearty dose of cosmic horror thrown in perfectly and believably. Very fun and lighthearted tale. Not to mention…evil plants!?

I waited to leave my first thoughts after the heartbreak of battlefield earth which I, unfortunately, find myself slogging through still. But now I am 2/3 through the first of two novels. Conan and the Emerald lotus certainly deserves its praises as a pastiche. This novel is campy in all the best ways. Capturing what I believe is the heart of 80s dark fantasy. Fun with tons of interesting characters and interactions
