Status Updates From Moonlight and Ashes

Maggie has left the factory to start a sewing business after the encouragement and idea from Jo.
The army have found Sam hiding at his mother’s.

Maggie doesn’t charge Jo for the clothes just says
‘Owe ms a favour… probably babysitting.’

Jo has came to Maggie’s for a chat and to see the clothes for her little sisters.

Sam’s not going to war he’s pulling a runner he’s leaving and the kids are asleep and Maggie is not being told by him where he’s going. Jo has been invited to Maggie’s house and many colleagues at the factory have been offering their condolences.

Maggie is back to working a job. She works in a factory, it’s the first time in her married life she’s ever stood up for herself. She keeps on top of housework and a job. And now the children both have newer and nicer clothes with the extra money coming in. Maggie made a friend too she’s Eileen.

It shows a deeper insight in Sam,David and Maggie’s Past. Sam tricking her drunk into sleeping with the wrong twin and her marrying Sam and having the twins. Lucy’s walked finally and caught a kind of fever. Sam has given Lucy a black eye after the kids mention Uncle David’s surprise visit. This was after Sam forces the kids to go up to bed.

We see a lot more of Sam’s true colours as he does get violent with his wife Maggie. He punches her in the nose. We also see how maternal Maggie is and how desperate she is to not send her children away. We see Danny have a split character of a protective older twin for Lizzie but still that same kid who realises the Anderson Shelter leaves not as much room to play. Which is why I love his sweet personality.

It’s a good book I enjoy it proper it’s really accurate to when it’s set as well and Maggie embraces the qualities of a reyt good mum.
