Trying to figure out what political action here/now looks like for Zeno, & I have three thoughts: First, there's a lot of emphasis on the (Stoic version of the) ἐραστής/ἐρώμενος relationship. This relationship is present between the sage & the pupil in real Greece. Perhaps action is ethical example. (& perhaps that was very nearly successful in Rome.) Second: Greek colonies? Third: Communism is just an ideal.

As Schofield imagines the trajectory of Stoic history, the Chrysippean shift from… hmm… an apprenticeship communism (just making terms up here) per Zeno to a more ethical orientation is a disappointment & seems like an unnecessary opposition: The Chrysippean "cosmic city" ethic is consonant with & maybe implicit in the Zenotic (<—word?) "city of love".
