didion’s writing style is kind of convoluted but it works to get me into the hazy apathetic world maria lives in

lowkey nothing is happening but it’s so captivating

i had high high expectations for this novel and was disappointed. the writing felt exactly like the books’ setting: dry, hot, depressing, empty, which is satiating if that’s the prose you’re after. i appreciate Didion so much but this book unfortunately didn’t do too much for me.
