Took a few chapters, but I drew more useful context and frames of analysis than I initially guessed. Military newspaper history offers excellent evidence of the experiences of average soldiers and military personnel, their morays, and how these narratives are controlled (or not) in war by governments.
And it offers strong arguments for how/why support for integration was suppressed in the US (and women held back).
