So far this book is drastically modifying my understanding of the early modern science/philosophy vs religion/the Catholic Church debate. Although Gaukroger’s prose is fairly dry and direct and although his details are beyond comprehensive, I’m finding it to be a, what’s the expression?, a “page turner.” (My only objection so far: the book is lacking in histororico-biographical gossip 😂.)

Gaukroger is already making revise my assumptions about the Scientific Revolution. Demanding but exciting book so far.
