Status Updates From The Monster Within

The nerve of this woman to be lashing out at her mother for being ill when she's literally in a mental health ward with an eating disorder and some other obvious mental issues. I am having a hard time having sympathy for this author, and I would have hated to be in the same ED unit as her.

These group therapy sessions are some of the weirdest I've ever read about...

Why are you going to a family dinner with a 17yo?

I've got to be honest...the way she describes the actions of the therapist and aides makes them sound like they should potentially be mental patients as well.

Every other page is some sort of emotional tantrum, there's no way the ED is her main psychological problem.

This woman is emotionally foreclosed at the age of 13, I swear. I hope she matures by the end of all this therapy.

Oh, sure, Satan gave you bulimia. How convenient.

"I told her she was selfish for wanting me to listen to her when she had a mother to comfort her, while I had no one." - this is what an almost 30yo woman said to a 14yo inpatient roomie. Absolutely wild.

Re-reading this 20+ years later I am not finding the author as sympathetic because what is this obsessing over a married man you have known for maybe months and who is in inpatient with you? This woman is severely emotionally foreclosed around the age of 12-13, I swear.

Rereading it some 20-30 years later: I did not remember the writing being so...juvenile...but, also, why is this grown woman crying to little kids in the psych ward? That is not healthy for anyone involved.

Being constipated that long is no bueno.
