I really love this! Hard to out down. It has some very unkind characters without leaning on caricatures or being over the top. I love the look into several people's lives, as it calls to mind Love Actually.

This book actually seems super offensive. I don't think it's necessarily intentional, but the main characters are all terrible people with rapidly shifting motivations.

I'm so glad Carol isn't necessary to the plot now and neither is David. I genuinely wanted to harm them for injuring my poor, innocent John.

Spoiler Alert: Really looking forward to finishing this book. Can't swallow so many pieces of it:
1. A guy who wants to clean out his butt with a turkey baster after sex, and cries like a baby when his lover discovers him.
2. A straight, multi-millionaire who is indecisive and puts up with the tantrums of a grown man.
3. A stalker who comes out of the blue and shoots a lover.
The list goes on and on...

I am only reading this because I feel like I should finish it. I've a bit bored with incredible situations and contrived conversation. It really drags.

I'm guessing now the author is straight. I don't mind, but I'm also guessing it's his first book.
The back cover compares this book to Brokeback Mountain, which was written in about 100 pages. This book could benefit from being about half the length. I find it a bit tedious.

A little hard to get into this rather long book because it seems a bit slow. Also, it seems that the characters all tend to view the world in terms of hyperbolic extremes--smells comparable to atomic explosions, looks so ugly that parents should have killed their babies. Either the British see people at their extremes or the author is trying too hard. Either way, it's hard for me to get a sense of reality here.
