Yes! Acknowledgement of the superiority of "Prometheus Unbound"! Also, I fuckin love "Moebius" parts one and two. You cannot convince me that Sam and Jack aren't together after these eps.

'"Redemption" was also notable for the introduction of the Jaffa Shaq’rel, an otherwise inconsequential character but for the fact that the part was initially written for a certain NBA star who, according to Chris Judge, was interested in doing the show. Well, that never worked for whatever reason and while I won’t reveal the name of the basketball player, it really shouldn’t be that hard to figure out.'

Fans didn't like "Wormhole X-Treme!" when it aired? Why? It's so fun! I also love "200". I love when shows can make fun of themselves and just have fun.

Not related to the content at all, but there are truly a staggering amount of typos and formatting issues in this book.

I didn't know Scalzi was involved with SG-1! I knew he was a consultant on Universe, but apparently they hired him to rewrite some episodes! They're talking about "Tangents" right now, which is the one where O'Neill and Teal'c get trapped in an experimental aircraft as it ascends to space.

I just learned that Carmen Argenziano died :( They were talking about him playing Sam's father, and how much warmth he brought to that character, so I googled him and now I'm sad.

Interesting. The oral history part of this book has ended, and it has now switched to an episode guide with behind the scenes tidbits from writers and producers.

"iTunes was very excited about it, but then, as talks progressed, Sci-Fi exercised this clause in their contract that didn’t allow us to pursue another home. It felt like a version of calling out a game, taking the ball and going home. It was too bad; it would have been very interesting to see what would have come of that."

"Vala was just a delightfully off-the-wall character that I absolutely loved to write for. The funny thing is we asked for her to be a series regular and Sci-Fi said 'No, just give her six episodes.' And then, after they saw the six episodes, they were, like, 'Let’s make her a series regular,' but we said, 'At this point, that ship has sailed. If we get a 10th season, we’ll make her a series regular,' and we did."

"We had two chiefs of staff of the Air Force do cameo roles; one was even bigger than a cameo. It was like a full bloody part, and he was good, too. I can’t remember his name — Michael was his first name, but I called him Sir — and apparently one of the first things he said when he became chief of staff of the Air Force was, 'When do I get to do my Stargate cameo?'

Amazing what a show not being on the verge of cancellation can do for it. By the end of season one, the production team had an unprecedented, guaranteed order of 88 episodes from Showtime, which meant they had room to breathe and could amortize costs for sets and other production costs, because they knew spending the money up front would be an actual long-term investment.

Every time a person goes through the Stargate for the whole run of the show, it cost $5k. I'm never going to be able to forget this fact. Every time I see someone go through now on rewatches, I'm just gonna be like, mental tally check, $5,000! The last shot of SG-1 would have cost them $30k alone (Sam, Daniel, Teal'c, Cam, Vala, and Walter.)

The KAWOOSH when the Stargate activates is actually a practical effect? That's wild.

Don S. Davis was a captain in the U.S. Army before he became an actor! That explains a lot.

"Chris Judge walked in and he was particularly buff that day and wearing a tight T-shirt, and Rick goes, “Why didn’t you go to the gym first? Don’t you care?” Chris laughed his head off in that Chris Judge way, which is very wonderful and very, very contagious. Jon and I looked at each other and instantly knew that he was perfect for the role."

"Amanda Tapping actually put in the work and understood what she was saying. She absolutely understood the scientific concepts that she was putting forward, the physics she was explaining. She would not just spout that stuff off. And if somebody had a problem with the way she was describing it, she could back it up. She was, like, “No, I looked this up. What I’m saying is actually right.”

"[Richard Dean Anderson] notoriously does not like to talk about the acting process, he just kind of does it and it comes to life. That’s not what he’s in it for. But the fact of the matter is that when you give him a serious script, and you really back him into a corner and force him to 'act,' he will fight his way out of it, creating something absolutely magical in the process."

"What I brought to the table reads of the scripts was the attitude that everything was potentially a setup for a funny line, which doesn’t make writers and producers very happy."

Ha! The "everyone speaks English" thing bothers Brad Wright, too! I feel justified. And they should definitely have made some sort of translator.

lol just found this at my library. Apparently they’ve beefed up their Stargate related book collection since the last time I looked.
