“ the nation would never become great again until every last heretic has been extirpated (destroyed/wiped out)” sound familiar 😑
“The Huguenot malignancy (basically means harmful or illness) was still spreading, infecting Paris” reading this right now with the state of the world (what’s going on in America)
Hits different. Prosecution of people has existed throughout history, scapegoat.

Huguenot: French Protestants. Facing severe persecution and violence from the Catholic majority in France, tens of thousands fled the country, becoming some of the earliest recorded refugees.
Tensions erupted into the French Wars of Religion. The most notable tragedy was the St. Bartholomew’s Day Massacre in 1572, where thousands of Huguenots were killed in Paris and across the country.

Ok so, we have Louise. Who as a child loved the sea and boats. She said she wanted to be a captain. NO, can’t do that remember your a girl and with boobs so you can’t. She was upset (rightfully so) and almost drowned. This was presented as a dream, but it was most likely a memory. She is 25 now and I think her family is relatively wealthy but has rough time. She lives with her grandparents.

Also this is important to note, this is set before the French Revolution. The book is set in the 17 century and the French Revolution happened in 1789. They got rid of the French royal family and no more kings and bye bye Marie Antoinette (who did not say ‘let them eat cake’).
