Status Updates From Legends and Lyrics: A Book ...

My beautiful Collin's Illustrated Pocket Classics edition has it's own ribbon. The ribbon is over 100 years old, so I shouldn't have been so surprised when the bottom cm of it fell off while I was reading last night. But I was very disappointed to have damaged this book via my use of it.

I can see why this poetry feel out of favour in the early 20th century. It's naivety may have seemed charming in Victorian England, but seems too saccharine now. I'm probably going to keep reading it because I realised I enjoyed imagining the Victorian world where this was taken as great literature, rather than childish doggerel.

This isn't the edition I own, but I can't find anything closer so eyyy-up
